- With over 48,000 surgeries to his credit he is featured in the Guinness Book of Records 1997 and Limca Book of Records 2000 – 2009 (consecutive years) as the first Endoscopic surgeon performing most number of minimal access surgeries.
- Chairman of the core-group of experts from all over the country, who deliberated and formulated guidelines and recommendations for minimal access surgery in India. The resulting treatise on "Minimal Access Surgery - Guidelines and Recommendations" was released by the Hon'ble President of India at Rashtrapati Bhavan on July 15, 2002. These guidelines are supported by all medical bodies and governmental organizations of repute viz. Indian Medical Association, National Board of Examinations, Medical Council of India, Ministry of Health and Indian Council of Medical Research, and are also endorsed by the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo-Surgeons (IAGES).
- Honor of operating on His Excellency Shri K R Narayanan for his gall bladder surgery (March 29, 2001)

- Record of performing surgery in the shortest duration (4-1/2 min.)
- The first person to perform laparoscopic cholecystectomy in Sri Lanka in 1993
- Performed laparoscopic surgery on patients aged 3 months to 92 years and on patients weighing upto 180 kgs (morbidly obese)
- The largest series of laparoscopic cholecystectomy on patients of situs inversus (seven cases).
- The first to perform simultaneous laparoscopic splenectomy on a patient scheduled for renal transplant with ITP.
