Bariatric Centre Of Excellence Minimal access surgery is the future. It is already an established standard of surgery for majority of abdominal / chest surgery and is acquiring increasing applications in the field of Urology, Cardiac surgery, Vascular surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic surgery, Paediatric surgery and Orthopaedics. It is envisaged that a great majority of surgical procedures in most major surgical specialities will be performed by minimal access surgery in the coming years. Minimal access surgery is a highly specialized, technology driven surgery that requires special training and exposure to sophisticated endovision equipment and hand instruments.

The Institute of Minimal Access, Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery has an extremely busy workload with more than 300 major laparoscopic procedures performed every month. The Institute is committed to providing educational opportunities so you may continue to enhance your abilities, interests and knowledge in minimal access surgery.

Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (3 months)

Departmental fellowship courses where fellows are admitted for intensive training and may assist for basic and advanced laparoscopic procedures. This course is suitable for experienced surgeons.

Minimally-Invasive Anal Fistula Treatment (MAFT), is a new innovative endoscopic technique, for the surgical treatment of complex anal fistulas and their rechnique, for the surgical treatment of complex anal fistulas and their recurrences. Anal fistula, or fistula-in-ano, is a common anorectal problem.

This fellowship program is essentially a multidisciplinary weight management program that revolves around the bariatric surgical services provided at the institute. The Fellowship program is stipendiary.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Fellowship in Endoscopic Hernia Surgery (1 month)

The course content includes an introduction to groin endoanatomy, extraperitoneal access techniques, surgical dissection techniques, various meshes and fixation devices. The duration of the course is one month and is suitable for surgeons proficient in basic laparoscopic surgery. This fellowship is stipendiary.

Fellowship Programme in Bariatric Anaesthesia (1 month)

The course includes information on the basic principles of Bariatric Anaesthesia and setting up of Bariatric unit as a Bariatric Centre Of Excellence. The didactic sessions give extensive information on indications, choice of anaesthetic techniques, current options, airway management, perioperative management and complications. Fellows will initially observe and then assist in conduction of anaesthesia. This fellowship is stipendiary.

Bariatric Centre Of Excellence Clinical Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery (1 month)

The course includes introduction to laparoscopic access dissection, anatomy, suturing and surgical techniques (fertility enhancing laparoscopic surgery, myomectomy, hysterectomy etc). This includes Hysteroscopic surgery. The Fellowship programme duration is 1 month.

Observership (2 weeks)

Observership course where surgeons may attend operation theatre sessions with prior arrangement.

Minimally Invasive Surgery

Basic training course (5 days)

The basic training course involves an exposure to all aspects regarding basic laparoscopic surgery. This includes didactic lectures on instrumentation, equipment, maintenance, pneumoperitoneum, port placements and basic laparoscopic procedures. Also, candidates shall interact in real time with surgeons performing live laparoscopic surgery. Endotrainers for basic hand eye coordination as well as intra-corporeal suturing techniques are provided. This course is suitable for surgeons wishing to commence their careers in laparoscopic surgery.
