The menace of Covid-19 has filled life with uncertainty, as many things are out of control, our positive mindset to defeat these difficult circumstances is the only key in hand. Fear is an emotion induced by perceived danger or threat and has a prehistoric origin. With evolution man has no longer fear from predators but the fear is from contacting the minuscule virus.
Many health experts have shown fear reaction starts in the brain and spreads through the body to make adjustments for the best defense or flight reaction. The fear response starts in a region of the brain called the amygdala. This constant fear is causing biological changes in people’s brains. Fears about wars, life insecurities, future uncertainties, failures, etc, and, of course, even about pandemic COVID-19 are quite common in everyday life. Mental health experts even revealed that issues like anxiety, depression, panic attacks, unhappiness, have witnessed a sharp rise since COVID-19.
Few studies have suggested the COVID-19 to be the Virus of Fear. One needs to draw its attention, by living in fear, we are decreasing our own protection ‘armor’ so our resistance is low. When we are in negative, spiral down energy, we reduce your resilience, our immune system and we are more susceptible to illness and diseases. The buzzing bee of social media at our fingertips assisting us to be updated with the facts of Covid-19 but at the same time escalating the chain of fear. The rhetoric tone of wrong information has become the breeding grounds for fear and anxiety. Experts agree that giving people concrete, detailed actions to take can help reduce panic and overreaction when a new threat emerges. A few minutes each day are enough to practice the self-help techniques to combat fear. Self- help techniques could be anything that interests an individual and divert their minds. It could range from simple meditation, exercise, reading a new novel, to watching movies with folks, or connecting with friends on zoom. The inputs of guidance and precautions such as washing hands, wearing the right mask barrier, and maintaining social distancing will reduce the fear quantum.
In the end, I want to make it clear, thinking does not overcome fear but actions will. It is our mindset to make our choices to face the FEAR- Face Everything And Rise.
